Dress Up Characters and Play Motions
Try outfits, hair, and dyes on a 3D character and play expressions and motion sequences. Put several characters on one screen, and share them by link or register them by name to show others.
Basic use
- In Build, choose a Race and adjust the body with the sliders.
- Click the slots in Face and Equipment and choose from the list. You can also type a name in a slot to search.
- Change colors with the palette button on the right of a slot. In the color window, choose a part tab, then pick a color in Custom or enter a color code in Dye Code.
- In Expression, choose an action and it plays right away. Press the play button (▶) to see it again, and press Stop (■) to end it while it plays.
- Turn on Repeat to keep repeating the expression or motion until you stop it. Expressions that change with the weapon in hand, such as attacks, play with the motion for the weapon you are holding.
- Turn on Advanced expression tools in Advanced to show Motion name and Current motion. Enter a name in Motion name and press the play button (▶) or Enter to play that motion. Current motion shows the name of the motion playing now, and actions that have numbers, such as expressions and idle stances, also show their numbers in parentheses. Use the button beside it to copy the name. A motion of another race may make the character look off.
- In the 3D view, drag with the left mouse button to rotate, drag up and down with the right mouse button to change the viewing height, and scroll the wheel to zoom. On a touch screen, rotate with one finger, and zoom or change the height with two fingers.
- Use the buttons at the top to take a Photo, save a GIF, and open the Hierarchy, Color Modify, and Render Settings panels. Reset view fits the view to the full body. Focus Head in Face shows the face up close, and Focus Body in Equipment shows the full body again. Turn on Map in Render Settings to stand the characters on a field.
- You can rotate the 3D view while the left panel is open. When the left panel covers more than half the screen, as on a phone, it fades after the first load or after you change something so the character shows through, and pressing the panel again brings it back. Open a closed panel again with the pencil button at the top left of the 3D view.
Color window
- Opening the color window moves the view to show that part, and closing it moves the view back. On a phone, the color window fills the screen and opens translucent, so you can watch the character behind it while you choose. Turn it on or off with the Translucent button in the window title bar.
- Press Default colors to choose whether to reset only the part on the current tab (Part A and so on) or All Parts.
- In Dye Code you can enter HEX (#614F19), RGB (97,79,25), or an 8-digit Flashy Dye code. The button next to it copies the current code.
- For equipment and chairs, In this palette shows whether the current color is in that part's color table. If it isn't, close colors appear next to it; press one to switch to it. The button on the right opens that part's Color Table window.
- In the Color Table tab, press the part's palette to pick a color.
- In the Flashy Dye tab, choose the type, Color 1 and Color 2, and the speed; a dye code is made and applied right away. The palette holds the colors you can pick with the in-game DIY Flashy Dye Mold.
- Colors you add with the star button (Add to Favorites) are picked in the Favorites tab. They are saved in this browser and shared with the color windows in Pets and Color Tables.
Photo
- Photo takes the 3D view exactly as you see it. The view pauses while the photo window is open.
- Choose 2x to retake it at double size. Save downloads a PNG file, and Copy image lets you paste it right away. On phones and tablets that support it, Share sends it to another app.
Handling several characters
- Add characters with Add (+). Clicking a character in the 3D view also lets you edit that character.
- Turn on Move characters to drag characters to move them and scroll the wheel to turn them. Drag the ground to move the map, and right-drag to turn it. On touch screens, use the buttons next to Character and Map to turn the character and the map. To put one back where it started, press Reset position in the Character menu.
- The Character menu has Duplicate, Copy link, Delete, and more. Bring back a deleted character with Undo in the message.
- The first character in the list (with a star before its name) is used for previews on other pages, such as trying on and sitting. Press Make main to move a character to the front.
- If several characters choose the same Chair or Mountable Pet, they sit or ride together. Choose a seat in Seat, or press a number button in the 3D view while the Equipment section is expanded. The color of a shared chair or mountable pet can be changed only on whichever of those characters comes first in the list.
Motion Sequence
- Choose an outfit that supports motion sequences in Armor.
- In the Motion Sequence section, turn on Use motion sequence and choose a motion for each slot.
- It plays only while the character stands with both hands empty. To view it with hand equipment chosen, press Hide in hand on that slot.
- If you change the outfit, you need to turn on Use motion sequence again.
- Even if you put another outfit's motion in a slot, the outfit you wear doesn't change.
Saving and sharing
- The character list and your changes are saved in this browser. To move them to another browser or device, use Copy link, or Copy code and Paste code under Share. A link also opens in the sender's region for the person who receives it.
- Characters opened from a link get a From link tag. They aren't kept in this browser until you press Save to list or edit them.
- Press Open in Character Simulator in a preview window from the item menu to add the look you were viewing as a character.
Register Character
Use Register Character in Share to register the current look under a character name, along with the map, position, camera, Effects, and motion sequence. Anyone can look it up by that name in Character Lookup.
- You need to sign in. When you register, the Character Lookup link is copied. Anyone who receives the link also opens it in the region where you registered.
- You can register up to 20 characters. You can't use a name someone else registered.
- In My Characters, copy a link, Overwrite a character with the current one, or delete it. Characters registered in another region can be overwritten only after switching to that region.
Good to know
- When you change the race, the face, hair, equipment, and expression lists show only what that race can use, and mountable pets it can't ride are emptied. Any face, hair, eye, mouth, or color that race can't use changes to the default look a new character of that race gets in the game.
- Turn on Ignore gender and Human/Elf limits on equipment in Advanced to also list and wear equipment for the other gender and Human-only or Elf-only equipment. This is a look you can't get in the game, and clothes for the other gender show that gender's body shape. Limits between Giants and Humans or Elves are not lifted. If it is on for the first character in the list, previews on other pages don't change its race for these limits either.
- Pick balloons in the Puppet slot. Special Accessory takes accessories that have no shape on the body and only change height or the idle stance. The idle stance changes only while standing with both hands empty.
- Hair Color has both colors you change at the Beauty Shop and colors you change with a Hair Dye Ampoule, so the same name appears twice. Expand the list and use Beauty Shop and Hair Dye Ampoule to split them. Hair Dye Ampoule colors show the ampoule items and the lowest Auction House price for an ampoule of that color.
- Skin Color, Eye Color L, and Eye Color R also have colors you change with a Skin Color Change Ampoule or Eye Color Change Ampoule. Split them the same way; ampoule colors show the ampoule item and the lowest Auction House price for an ampoule of that color. The chips you choose apply to hair, skin, and eye colors together.
- Undo undoes the look changes on the current character one at a time.
- Choosing a chair gets the character off the Mountable Pet, and choosing a Mountable Pet gets it up from the chair. Press Undo in the notice to reverse it.
- The eye button inside an equipment slot (Hide equipment, Hide in hand in hand slots) takes the item off on screen only, keeping your choice in the slot.
- Hand slots keep only combinations you can hold together in the game. Changing one hand removes the item in the other hand if they can't be held together, and changing the race removes a left-hand item that race can't hold with its right-hand weapon. But if you choose a left-hand item that needs a matching right-hand weapon, like an Arrow or a Marionette, a right-hand weapon that can be held with it is equipped. The right-hand weapon of the other set, or the same weapon, is used first if it fits.
- Holding a Marionette brings its doll out in front of the character, on its right. In Normal, the doll isn't connected and sits slumped. In Combat, Walk and Run, it's connected by strings and moves with the character. The doll takes the Left Hand colors.
- Turn off Apply changes right away in Advanced to change several things, then press Apply to show them on every changed character at once. Body shape, hair, skin, and eye colors, and the colors of parts whose equipment you did not change still update right away. Pressing Undo before Apply cancels what has not been applied on the current character.
- Entries you add to favorites with the star button in a list appear at the top. The magnifier button only shows a larger view and doesn't choose the entry.
- The hanger button (View in Dressing Room) next to the equipment, Custom Motion, and Chair slots shows pictures of the same list as your gender tab in the game's Dressing Room. A page number marks every 9 items, so with Default order and no filters you can find an item on the same page as in the game's Dressing Room. Items the current character can't wear are dimmed and can't be chosen.
- You can change Sort to Newest first or Most expensive, and narrow the list with Hide collaborations. In the Armor slot you can also narrow it with Outfits with Motion. Press one to put it on right away.
- Newest first reverses the Dressing Room order, so it may differ slightly from the actual release order.
- The hanger button at the top of Face shows Hair, Eye, Face, and Mouth as pictures, one tab each, with Hair Color, Skin Color, or eye colors beside them. You can narrow the list with Beauty Shop and Beauty Coupon, and for eye colors you choose which side to change with Eye Color L and Eye Color R.
- The Custom Motion list only shows outfits that give the current character a motion. The chosen motion plays only when you wear an outfit with a motion in Armor, and the outfit you wear doesn't change.
- In Height, steps in a different text color are heights that are not available in the game.
- In Scene, turn on the stage, titles, and the Special Upgrade, Spirit Weapon, and Erg effects of the weapon in hand.
- On touch screens, press and hold an icon button to see its name.
- Changes made in the Hierarchy and Color Modify panels are not saved. Change equipment colors with the palette button.
- If you cancel the window saying graphics acceleration is unavailable, the 3D view turns off. Press Turn on 3D to be asked again.
